Hello everybody !
New environment , focused on nature and open space (opposite of my previous one)
An old path to a creature's cave . But has been forgotten for a long time. Creatures is probably dead . Nothing violent , really want a soft mood . Round shapes, loft of plants and old rocks.
Here is , my first layout, moodboard and first cliff sculpting
See you soon for updates !
[Update for thumbnail !]

Is the bottom image the cliff asset? It looks quite man made imo. But still really good
first of all thank you guys for your inputs on this !
@lucas3311 i think i'm not the best for now on natural rocks .This is my first one. But this is a pretty basic and similar to what you'll find on main tutorials .
_Making the main shape (move brush , that's where you should spend the most time).
_Then trimsmooth brush with square alpha .To give a sharpen look.
_Then play with surface noise ( use different ones/create a mask with a noise then use another one ....etc get creative with that ),
_then Trimsmooth brush again !
@Adelphia @Cube Republic
I think you guys are right... i thinks it's the stair shape rocks that give than man made feeling ... Hope it'll be better when i add vegetation on it... we'll see cause i have to move on now
This might help with your rockshttp://the-witness.net/news/2013/09/on-the-rocks/
long time since the last update .
I put the rocks a modeled in the scene
Also modeled all ''Human made elements''
I sculpted the Arch , and now i need to do the rest !
I also changed the environment a bit . Big Arch is still gonna be there .But i suppressed the river .
And replaced it with an ''after the rain'' environment , with some water puddles on the path .
If you have any feedback, reference or comments please feel free to !

I also work with Maya and i have a question regarding this. I see your grid is very small compared to the default settings. I assume you are working with centimeter units?
Do you have to change the Clipping Plane of all the cameras? I'm struggling with this issue for quite som time and it's really annoying. How do you handle this, im very curious ^^
keep it up
@Staubkopf
Yeah i'm working in centimeters and my grid is 1:1. I dont have any clipping problem though...maybe i solved this problem and i don't remember ?
sorry to be unable to help you on that ... i work on maya 2014 .You maybe got a older version ?
Astonishing job, thanks for link, alos subbed.
All you have to do is adjust the near and far clip planes to suit your needs. Just select the camera and go to its attribute editor. I think you can set a default in the preferences window as well.
That's a temporary texture just to test my model. I use Quixel suite to texture it (super great to quickly texture a model)
_i used the Mossy rock preset that i customized a bit and mixed wit concrete and rock materials.
Plus i got a custom detail normal from a photo (created with BitmapToMaterial 3)
The final version is gonna be Substance Designer though !
@Matthew Smith : Thanks for the tips !
Thanks for the Input, ill try it out as soon as i can, thx
(but i wont be posting it in this thread though, ill send you a pm)
I haven't posted in a while.
Here is the update on what i'm working on !
I have been sculpting all stone man-made element
I also made a layered shader.
The sculpted objects use only 2 maps
A RGB+A mask maps and a macro normal map
And also a substance as a base (I also learned to use Sub designer and painter !! Lots of fun)
here is the result. Any feedback welcome
I'm going back to making the others objects textures
Cheers
haha sorry it was the slowest option on the gif maker ... Yeah the moss layer is a material function (so it's nicely reusable)
So I add the albedo from that material function to the albedo of the object and also
For the displacement I use the moss Mask (that is a per object map in the Red channel)
I also use this to mask the moss material fonction
The moss use a fuzzy shader , with some parallax trick
I 'm done for now with my human sculpted stones .
Here is some screenshot of my shader on the other objects .
So now i'm gonna start doing the vegetation to give some life to that scene !!
Cheers
I tried to set up a first mood and added some chains !
Going back to vegetation now
i have been out for a while...
So i started getting my hands on Substance designer . Which is a super great software , so i decided to make my environment a susbtance texture only !
So i'm starting to make Leaf and branches generator for my vegetation ,
here is my first attempts for a leaf
Cheers
As for Crit, I'd say that some of the holes in the leaves look artificial. The more circular holes look great but the ones that go in a straight lines don't look so great. Stems are a little blobby. That said your work is looking awesome good job! Loving how the light interacts with the leaves
Yes it's full substance, no bitmaps.
You're right I'll try to find a better way type the holes on the side. And rework on the shape of the stem
So i worked a substances
Some Moss to put on Rocks and stuff
And also a mossy ground for the nature part
Rendered in marmoset for now
Some Rust substance to start this year .
The separation between material is made with a unique map per object. (a RGB mask map)
But i used this one and this one as reference if you need a base to start .
@MCGILLCHRIS thanks !
@GRIFITI , yes Everything is procedural , no bitmaps !
New substance that i'm gonna use as a base for rocks
Thanks for that i appreciate it.
No problem ! just browse through Sub Share , it's a gold mine !
New Substance ! i'll use it as a base for man made stone sculpture (replace the old one )
I got interviewed by the website 80.lv Here
I created somes gifs and explained a bit my workflow ,Go have a look!
Also some wip shots, still working on vegetation!
I made trees (the one before were Speedtred samples)
New lighting mood changes (still WIP)
Also a new ground shader and Overall layout change
So i worked a lot on vegetation shaders , various props etc....
I re-did the whole layout of my environment .
So now i'm really working on lighting and fx's to make beauty shots.
If you have any inputs that would be great ! i really want this environment to get better
Cheers
