Schools out, full time job, and
Summer improvement thread!tl;dr -> Moose is posting art over the summer
I've been doing 3D art on and off for quite a long time, and in the pass 6months/year? I've started to take it really seriously, and I've seen fast improvement. I want to push myself in the right direction here and become a stronger artist.
Right now I'd say I'm a generalist, but I want to be a character/monster/sculpting based artist. (I'd love to be super awesome at everything eventually, but right now I want to have.. my "main")
Objectives:
1. Establish Workflow
2. Train drawing skills
3. Push sculpting / Character art
4. Practice hand painting (maybe?)
1. Establish workflow -
I don't have one, and I keep finding myself doing projects without planning anything out. Which results in a large amount of confusion and problems. So TIME TO STOP BEING SILLY.
2.
Train drawing skills -
This one is more straightforward. I can't draw. I'm starting to understand that this is extremely important and will really help me tie everything together.
Going to do at least an hour a day, watch :
http://www.ctrlpaint.com/ then do the homework.
3.
Push Sculpting / Character art -
This is the direction I want to take my art in. Going to take up the poly count monthly challenges and weekly anatomy. Not to mention also attempting to find time outside of that to pursue bust sculpts.
4.
Practice hand painting -
My texture skills are sub par. I need to improve them if there is time in the summer to do so.
Where I'm at :
Posting my most recent works, to show were I stand as the summer is starting.
Time to begin the
Hot Summer Nights!

Trying to figure out where to go next, should I do the next months character challenge, do a head bust as well? Can I handle both in one month? Not sure! Also would like to finish some substance designer projects.
Start of:
Eye sockets still give me tons of trouble. The forms of this guys face are pretty tricky as well, trying to get it right.. Some anatomy issues still, but much improved!
(Though I would also like to figure out how to texture skin without it building up the sculpt itself..I'm missing something there.)
So hes bald.. (And lacks fur on his clothes, So the skirt looks weird without the fur!)
(Rendered in marmoset and cropped because im bad at rendering)
are you familiar with primary secondary and tertiary shapes?
Your troll has pretty good primary and tertiary shapes but its lacking a lot of its secondary form. just something you can think of the next time you are creating a character.
Super late reply.
I noticed that too, I kinda crunch timed it and didn't put my all into it like I should have!
I found a great article about those forms though.
