I thought that, but it doesn't appear to be. I was moving it plenty of times before this and it was completely fine. I even detatched all the skin and re skinned it. Same thing happened.
Can you select these rogue verts? I would have a similar problem where random verts would shoot off into infinity, wouldn't be selectable and it would require me to restart Maya to fix the problem.
While this doesn't really help you, if the affected verts are not selectable it might be an instability issue like I was having.
Is your mesh closed or does it have holes (such as sleeves, etc.? If I remember, closing the holes did the trick for me. You might also check for non-manifold geometry.
If that doesn't help, a workaround for me was to switch my renderer to "High Quality" or "Legacy Default" instead of "Viewport 2.0".
