I have no idea where to put this question so I figured out that this was the best subsection of the forum to post it.

Okay, so I have come to my wits end on how to make a decent skin texture for characters in games. While I understand shaders help the final look, I’m not talking about that. I’m talking about how to make a good albedo map that can either be used for subsurface scatter in marmoset or used in a traditional way.

I’ve checked all the resources on the internet and the talents at hand and none of them are willing to share me the basic elements of painting and detail skin texture outside of making a good normal map. I hear some people polypaint a base color onto their model and then use a photo as additional texturing as another layer in photoshop, but I am skeptical about this process.

As a person who has spent hours trying to figure out how to make a decent skin texture can you guys help me or anyone else is frustrated in this scenario.
Here’s the model and here’s my attempt at it. Note I’m using the skin shader matcap, aka wash out all the detail for painting matcap.
