So I am a student currently at a community college doing Game art and design. While the program is good, they're very broad and their time with hands on in programs is limited to 12 weeks then you move to a new program. So far I've run through a lot of adobe products, very few autodesk (besides Maya) and not much else besides some core art stuff.
I was told last night by a helpful twitch streamer about Polycount and so here I am! He said that all my questions could be answered so I will just leave it sorta open ended with a few.
- What are the best resources for Maya? I have Lynda.com sub but that's about it. Found Polycount.
- What programs for a 3-D modeler are currently industry standard? I was gonna use Mudbox but I heard Zbrush is better?
- I probably have a lot more but can't think of anything, I am honestly just excited to start learning some more stuff hopefully

Software wise, you can't go wrong with Zbrush if you ever want to try sculpting. Check out Zbrush Central and decide for yourself You'll get your mind blown, I guarantee. Pixologic also offers a little free sculpting app called Sculptris. You should download it and see if you enjoy sculpting.
For Maya I suggest you do any project base tutorial. Meaning the ones that walk you through creation of something from start to finish. Try to complete a few of them and you should then be able to start tackling you own project modeling what you yourself want.
Side note, has anyone used or heard of 3D Motive.com? I kind of like the videos listed. But 200$ a year is it a scam site or legit does it help to learn from it?
Check out the Gumroad reviee thread we have here, see if there's anything you like.
