Hey hey everybody! :nerd:
Thought I should start a Sketchbook instead of making a load of threads across the 3d and 2d sections. I'm a character artist working on hand-painted low-poly stuff during the day and developing my 'next-gen' 3d knowledge and 2d skills in the night.
First, here's some of my hand painted work which hasn't yet seen the light of Polycount.
Ozan is the first character I made for an upcoming ccg; Chronicle; RuneScape Legends. You can find out more about it's development
here.
As with everything I post, comments, feedback, suggestions are welcome. :poly142:

Thanks Qiwi Man
I've never worked on a character that hasn't been "chiseled" so it's nice to work on something a bit softer and also a new challenge. I'm aiming to cover and refresh a few base skill sets; facial anatomy, skin, hair, eyes, & rendering in general. Keeping it fun.
Looks like Runescape has changed quite a bit since I was 10 yrs old.... Keep it up
The characters run a custom shader with self illumination which allows us to add effects like rim light whilst keeping the original colours from the texture. (I didn't want to show it here as I take no credit for the fancy shader work.)
Sadly we can't get these kinda characters into the original Runescape Game (although it is improving leaps and bounds.) Chronicles a CCG based on the same universe, please check this out if you would like to know more; https://www.rschronicle.com/
Here's a quick hand sculpt for the character I'm currently working on, WIP
Switching it up again and returning to work on Foggy after spending a long time digging into Facial Anatomy and learning as much as I can.
When I started the model I intended to render it in Marmoset so I ran a few render/texture tests to get a better idea of what maps I would need, what changes should be made etc etc.
So here's a picture of a far-from-finished Foggy, absolutely EVERYTHING in this scene will be improved over the next few weeks. That said, please let me know if you have any pearls of wisdom about skin/eye/hair rendering in Marmoset.
Future Changelist:
+ He might have too much fat under his chin and jaw line (but it might just be the lighting)
His neck looks pretty slim in daredevil:
Keep up the good work!
Also, obviously, Foggy looks amazing. He's the real MVP of Daredevil.
Agreed, Foggy is a great character.. hope DD stays strong for season 2!
Coming to a close on this project, a few more tweaks next time I see it with fresh eyes.
Learnt so much throughout, mistakes to correct next time;
- Choosing a character with hair, especially light coloured hair!!
- Choosing a character without much available high quality reference.
- Not baking I.D maps for the hair strands
- Not sticking to one key reference image as a goal
- Not previewing/testing the sculpt in the marmoset engine until it was finished.
Thread for my latest character can be found here
