Hello everyone! I recently participated in the throne room contest but I was a bit I couldn't get feedback on my work. if possible I would greatly appreciate some critique on it. http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=147716
here are just the finals
it's an ok piece of work.. but the main problem I feel is that most of the objects are very large clunky shapes with noise as detail on them... however the lighting / back wall texture is quite nice
With your reference I can see where you are going. Your color palette is a bit too much. Like you have greens blues reds yellows and oranges. It is clashing, causing the images to feel like it is lacking cohesion. In addition, if you make it into a black and white image (specifically for the bottom one) the heavy white on the left, pulls your eye from your focal point which is hindering your current composition. However it could make for a cool light shaft that you could use as a directional to lead your eye back to the throne.
also just thought of this, the marco polo trailer has a cool 1 point perspective shot with great lighting in it that could be a cool reference thingy. @:26.
I do agree that the details specifically on the tile are a bit to noisy. Break em up maybe make the color not be so drastic as a 1 to 0. Also for the lighting it does look like you are trying to do the light from the bottom to make things feel big or important. I would look at Hugh Ferriss work, great artist.
