I need some scale units tips for architectural modeling, using Maya. I have
the units set to centimeters, but how do I know that Im modeling in the right
scale, so a human-character can walk in the building? The building Im about to model is about 5 meters tall.
Hope anyone have some tips to share

I may have other stuff for architecture, i will think about it later this weekend.
I always add several human-characters to a map to help visualize the scale.
Maybe I could load a house-preset and go from there too.
I also found this myself, after some googling:

Is it best to have seperate meshes for windows, or selecting faces and extrude?
Im going to apply glassmaterials from UnrealEngine.

Everything could stand in one big static mesh and you could use appropriate color chanels for the glassmaterial in the UnrealEngine i believe.
You can always add an extra material for your glass for both modular & and a large static mesh.
Here is a glass material setup and ready to go with some nice parameters to play with: http://www.michalorzelek.com/blog/?p=322
This should give you a deep insight to the modular workflow in UE4:
