Hi polycounters,
I've learnt that for game companies I need to be more specialist. So I have recently decided to specialise more in environment/prop modelling and I am catering my portfolio to some companies I want to work for. These companies all share a cartoony or low poly style. My question is, should I just concentrate on building a portfolio of that style, or is it necessary that I include some variety, for example, some realistic textures?

I feel like if you enjoy making low poly and cartoony assets and environments definitely put that on your portfolio. I don't think it's bad to have some realistic stuff on your portfolio, but if you do it wouldn't hurt to have it divided between cartoon & realistic.
