Hi everyone,

I'm a character artist but also have interest in environment. I decide to learn game environment by myself. I know that the workflow of game environment is different from game character so I have some questions:

Which game engine should I use? Cryengine or UE4? (I personally like UE4 more than Cryengine)

Game Environment workflow? Any special software for environment artist? (Speedtree for example?). I was wondering how they model/texture terrain? As I know they use height map to build terrain in game engine?

I appreciate if someone could provide me some helpful links or tutorials about game environment. Thank you!

Question 1: I think you have gotten that one answered for you, go with Unreal.

Question 2 : Well, not really? I mean you can make heightmaps in Zbrush if you want. I use World Machine for my height maps. Depend on what you want to make, interiors would be alot simpler to make for sure.

There are some really great pages on the Wiki.
