Hey guys
,i have been recently trying to create myself a new workflow in Maya inspired by many features that i really like in Modo.I was wondering if some of them are available as scripts in Maya, since they seem to be really, really useful
- The selection tool in Modo allows you to select a face, jump one step and select another one.Once you're done just start hitting the UP button and it will create some sweet selection sets :
On simple shapes like this cylinder it can seem to be an easy and relatively fast thing to do in Maya, but once you start working on complex scenes/objects it's really a pain in the *ss :poly127:
Also,is there any script that gives you a effect similar to Modo's bridge (
basically bridge selected faces and add necessary edge or edge loops to avoid Ngons) ?
Thanks in advanced

I haven't touched NEX in many years so i don't really know what they are upto these days, but yeah Modo's selection is pretty good, not that it perfect but The Foundry is making good efforts to satisfy it's userbase.

Futhermore, if you're still looking for more have a look at those 2 free scripts for Modo that seems to be getting some heat on the internet lately. Let me know what you think.
Select Similar Face script and Maya Loop Select (MLS)

Im pretty sure there's a ton of bridgetool in Maya over at www.creativecrash.com, since you mentioned it, maybe i'll spend sometime and look for new stuff for Maya too.
NEX is now integrated within Maya, commonly named as Modeling Toolkit, and AFAIK it does have such nice selections tools, correct me if i'm wrong tho
Already started searching up there,no results right now but will keep searching,CreativeCash is a big place so someone somewhere might have done or is doing something light this i hope.
I've only had the time to use Modo for around two months, but as a native Maya user it blew my mind.I couldn't even handle all the awesomeness, coming from a vanilla Maya that was crashing like hell.
If you're into 3D modeling Modo will feel more complete, more robust and less buggy. In fact,I've used Modo for two months on 3 different machines and only had one crash which was due to me rendering at a very high resolution.Maya on the other hand can crash when you bevel, extrude, merge, anything !
Modo has the best selection system out there imho, and look at it's damn booleans, super efficient bridge that smartly fills any open gap,it's bevel tool that never let you down, and all those little commands here and there that make a huge difference on the long run.
Now with that said,I've never used Modo since then and started learning how to make my own scripts to have most of the stuff i love from Modo in Maya. And it worked. It took me one year of only optimizing my workflow and not publishing that much of 3D stuff, but hell it was worth the pain.
Want to apply a material like in Modo ? fine, just highlight any object that has the material you're looking for and it's done. You're sick and tired of opening the attribute editor just to change your material's properties ? no problem, create a small window that can be triggered with a shortcut.
Want to create a pipe like Seneca Menard ? here you go :

Customizing Maya can be incredibly fun and challenging at the same time, and not only do you get to have more technical experience, but you also learn to force yourself to work on a software that doesn't feel great to you compared to the competition.Until it starts to feel pretty fantastic because you customized it to your needs, and that's exactly what Modo is popular about.
Out of the box,I think Maya is the weakest 3d modeling program out there (compared to Modo,Max,Blender,Zbrush) but if you're willing to optimize your software and learn how to deal with it's weaknesses, you will end up being a better artist, technically and artistically speaking.
I've only had to use MEL so far
Nice. I am also learning MEL last few weeks and i have to say it pretty interesting how much it is possible to do with it and automate certain things with just knowing some basics.
