Hey polycount! its been a while! I want to share something that I've been working on for a while.
With Folds In Tris(FITS) we've developed a Digital Clothing store that allows for modularity and customization while maintaining high quality assets for use directly in your AAA game/film pipeline. Utilizing marvelous designer we've made a library of patterns that can be fitted to your specific characters body shape. Whats unique about this is they're all made with production in mind, being able to just pick a pant/shirt/jacket/vest etc... and know that the shirts will always fit on-top of the pants, the jackets will always fit over shirts and so on..unless specified otherwise.
These assets will be for sale within our shop soon, I hope you guys like them! stay tuned for more information to come on how exactly this fits within your production pipeline!! Oh and also... there will be Gumroad tutorials as well as Cgma workshops on how we approach making each asset!
stay tuned guys! Please let me know your thoughts!feedback is more than welcomed to help make this more useful for you guys.
How well does this system work for various body sizes? will fat characters have tighter fitting clothes? or can we just expect them to wear baggier clothing and therefor have the same wrinkle patterns as slimmer characters?
almighty_gir- I have plans to give the base mesh that I have with a simple rig. Using this you can reposition the limbs to match your production poses and use this mesh as a blend shape in marvelous to get the clothes in the general position.
After you have all the clothing in the general positions you can then use a setting in marvelous to give more or less fabric to get the draping you want without changing the actual pattern...I will make a video showing what I mean.
DustinBrown-No this has nothing to do with naughty dog, although I work there this is in no way associated with them.
Will be interesting to see how this works. Warp and weft will definitely give you some flexibility in sizing garments, however it doesn't reflect the sophisticated changes that occur to measurements during grading.
You may have more luck just selling the patterns rather than the finished garments, as mentioned above there could be issues with using cloth cut for a differently proportioned avatar.
As Aabel said weft and warp adjustments, which I find have a tendency to make the cloth look heavier than it should be, will get you so far, but for a proper fit the patterns will need re-cutting.
I will be following this with interest, best of Luck Colin
Edit* read this back and sound like a miserable git....sorry, I should mention awesome work on the actual assets btw
Aabel- thanks for the feedback man! These garments were made to a 6"1-6"2 scaled male model. I'm hoping at the very least they're a great starting point for most realistic proportioned characters.
I understand what you mean and unless a character is completely overweight which would require adjusting the patterns anyway i think it should be a close enough fit that will be ok for most models. This is why i will need your help to figure out the best way to prepare them for your production needs.
@seth- didn't even think of that option honestly..i figured for production use, you would rather a library to just pick and choose from but thats definitely another option, thanks!
hey guys i just created this...please feel free to check it out and let me know what you all think!

stay tuned as I have lots more info and outfits coming!
I think you should probably offer bundles and probably rethink the pricing on some items. considering i can buy a mask like that for about 2 bucks, disassemble it and rebuild the pattern in a couple of minutes (or just improvise on photos or buy a sewingpattern).
Most of the assets will still need some work and refitting and at this pricerange i feel like doing it yourself is much much more efficient, given that you will get the asset you need for your specific needs and not some stock item.

Skeptical but keeping an open mind
