So Maya's paint vertex color tool has an export option, which doesn't have fill texture seam option, but more detrimentally, only exports vertex colours, not face colours; it averages adjacent face colours an exports that value as the vertex colour.
So i've been googling like crazy and the only result i get is this:
http://peterhanshawart.blogspot.com.au/2013/11/maya-bake-vertex-colors-to-texture.html
The problem is, since Maya 2012 the MentalRayVertexColor node no longer has the cpvSets[0] attribute to plug anything into. It seems absurd that they would remove the means to bake vertex colours and leave such a poor export option, so i assume there is some way and i'm just not hitting the right keywords when googling.
(tl;dr)
SO, How do i BAKE a vertex color set to a texture?
