Nostromo Environment - UE4 Feedback/Critique

Hey guys! I'm a third year environment artist studying at Teesside Uni and for my final year project I recreated the Rec room from the movie Alien within UE4.

My work on this for my handin is completed now but I have a expo coming up in a few weeks where I'd like to show it off and I wondered if you guys had any suggestions for tweaks and changes I could make.

For me the weakest areas currently are the feathers/water birds in the middle of the table and some of the grotty pipework near the door arches, Im currently in the process of fixing them. Also some of the blander texturing will be reworked on the sofas and table, probably including a new high poly for the chairs.

I'd like to get a bit more of a 'lived in' vibe going in the scene. More scuffs/scratches in areas of high traffic, plus a bit more cloth in the scene, Brett's cap and Dallas's jacket for example but I'd love to hear what you guys think and hear any suggestions/improvements I could make.

Thanks!

This turned out really well, dude. I agree what you mentioned about those pipes going around the doorway though, it's a bit wonky atm. Also, you should consider hosting your images on something other than imgur, they tend to compress your pics to hell and back. Just a suggestion.

All in all great work, and from a student too, very cool!

Thanks man, I'll be putting in new pipework work very soon. Now you mention it there is a ton of compression on those Imgur links, can't believe I didn't notice it before. I guess I should have hosted off my site instead. Thanks again for the kind words!

Nice stuff! The mood is perfect! I agree that the picture compression is pretty bad with imgur so it would be nice to see those in full quality.

Very interesting scene. Everything right now is looking a bit round/soft right now which I know some of it is supposed to but for some reason even all the electronics are as well.

I think getting that "lived in" vibe by adding some clutter and dirt and other such things will definitely push this a lot farther.

Also, do you have reference that you used for this that we could look at to compare? :D

Looks great. The making of Alien is on youtube and i highly recommend watching it. Its almost as creepy as the movie itself, partly because of the music and H.R. Geiger i think and really interesting.

I use Imgur too. If the image is over 5mb then there's lossy compression. Other than that you should be fine. This question was answered here.

Take note of how you export your images from whatever program you're working with. That may be the solution to the color bandings, etc.

Yowza!!! This is excellent work and can only get better with the fixes. Huge fan of the franchise and have been playing the game and you nailed the look and feel which is terrifying, great job.

Never have I hid in any GAME longer than this one out of pure fear. Keep up the bad work!
