Need help with Zbrush. helpful tips and guide needed

This isn't my piece of work good work by Andrew Smith

This post is just tips for me to improve on Zbrush.

1# What is the tool he uses when creating the eyes? is it masking and how do you do that?
Please answer like I am new to Zbrush as I am just starting to use it and may not understand a lot of the technical terms just yet. Thank you

Any helpful tips you want to include are appreciated.

The eyes were cut using the Slice-Curve brush. One those polygroups were isolated (ctrl+click on them to mask everything else), it was extruded using transpose (hold control when moving to extrude). The actual eyeballs were inserted using the Insert Sphere brush.
