Please don't pay for education in art as you will be in a lot of debt.
I disagree. It depends on what you define as education.
Going to a specialized class that is maybe $1000 for a few months that covers ONLY what you want to study can be a great opportunity.
The professor is usually knowledgeable on the subject, and the personal, 1 on 1 critique is a great way to improve quickly IF you incorporate the crits and put in a ton of time.
Get this book: http://www.theanimatorssurvivalkit.com/
It's got all the fundamentals and great techniques that transition between 2D & 3D. I've definitely heard it be referenced as "The Animation Bible", so it's worth checking out.
You can also find a PDF copy of it through Google if you're tight on cash flow! ;D
I've learned a lot just by looking at the keyframes of other artists and referencing what they do with my own ideas.
There's TONS of references and guides out there.
Ofcourse basic training would help which I've had a little of but this much has done a lot for me so far. But this applies to 3D animation i haven't done much 2D.

There grads get jobs. Dont believe? Check linkedin.
That is all.
Nobody can tell you how to get good at 2D or 3D animation. How many hours are you putting into art?
I can manage 40 hours a week and I work full time. You should be able to put in more.
