Good progress but I think you could push the proportions to make him appear more massive and intimidating. Enlarge his chest and arms, thicken his waist and legs. If you really exaggerate his latissimus dorsi you get that hulking feeling. Here's a pic of Grom for reference. See how large his body is compared to his head?
Alright, thanks for the feedback! Going to try some things out to make him look more intimidating. I think the best would be to make his head a little smaller.
Was going off of this for proportion ref (since I want it to fit into the Heroes of the Storm universe). But you're right, it still needs some adjustments.
Looking pretty good. My main critique on his face would be that the volume in the folds of his skin are more prominent than his nose. Perhaps give the nose a bit more volume, and cut down those folds a bit.
wow, looks really good, I find the proportions a bit of though, the arms could be longer and the head smaller/body bigger. overall he looks very slim and short, Grom should be a big buff guy.
WOW! this is just sick. Amazing sculpt (both on Grom and on his axe)!
The only thing that is bothering me is the handle of the axe. The "thick" parts look bloated. What material are you going with here, wood wrapped with cloth? The crevices should be more discrete in my opinion:
Still doing some detail passes over the sculpt later, the arms have been stretched by now and the legs shortened a bit, to give him more of a bulky feeling.
Just finished retopping the body. Hoping to finish the last detailing pass on the sculpt, as well as polypaint by next week.
Nice! You beat me to it modelling Grom for Heroes of the Storm haha. Its looking really solid. My only critique is I think you're making his stomach area too thin. His waist needs to be bigger.
Since you mentioned Rehgar, if you look at his model closely, his waist is slightly larger than what you have. Though Rehgar's headdress and posture makes it a little tricky to see this.
Fair point, TomGT! Might adjust that a little bit later. Although the perspective distortion from 3ds max doesn't do it justice. Looks a little bit better in the sculpt :P
Thanks for the kind words all of you! Next up is baking and posing him. After that, I might do another character of the franchise, for the new HotS contest that's coming up. Thinking about Vol'jin, but not quite sure yet.
Been a while since I posted anything here, due to exams.
The teacher wanted me to go more detailed with the textures and feel of the materials,
so that's what I've been up to.
Here's a wip shot
looking pretty good but I have to say that the palms of his hands look pretty jacked. The inset you have between the area where the wrist connects and the fingers looks super deep and not very realistic (even for a fantasy character).
Did a render of a quickly posed version of Grommash with zBrush. (The main render will be with Marmoset, once I have the model baked on the lowpoly version)

Other than that, this looks real awesome!

Here's a clayrender I did this afternoon as well.
