Welcome to the first Monthly Handpaint Art Jam !
Noobs and Character Artists can have their challenge, so do we! However we've decide on keeping it simple and friendly, and instead of making it a challenge, we're making it an Art Jam. A place where Handpainter can exchange technique, critique and tricks.
We welcome any cartoon concept artist that would like to join us too !
Each month we'll provide a thematic , it could be large or it could be stricter. There will be 3 categories: Props, character and environment. You're welcome to enter them all if you want ! You can also enter in the same category more than once.
We also encourage tiling texture in the "props category"
- There's no restriction on the software or technique you use. You're a free to use brush and bake map. Our goal here is to get better and share workflow. We won't accept any war between oldschool and newschool and what is handpaint.
- The use of photo is strictly forbidden.
- The use of heavily photobash brush is also forbidden. Remember the goal here is to PAINT.
- The final output should only use diffuse, alpha and glow map. No Normal, spec or bump is allowed on the model itself. However using those map as a base for your painting is allowed.
- This is an Art jam so don't use existing stuff, there's no point in it. Re-using asset is tolerate to a certain point, use your good sense.
- Everything have to be your work, no stealing. Collab are allowed as long as your teammates are part of polycount !
- You have to post WIP of your work, the main goal of this, is to learn, so no final product only.
- We encourage you to post your texture map as well as the model
- If you participate, you have to post at least a critique on someone else work.
"Once upon a time in the faraway land of polycount, lived a young bunny in the city of Easterville. Although his job required him to work all year long in order to prepare the Easter eggs for the fateful day, the Bunny loved it more then everything and pleasing the resident of Easterville was the only reward he needed. But then, one cold spring's night, the bunny caught a huge chocouenza. Scare that Easter would be ruined, the Easterans offered their help in order to finish decorating the eggs in time. However, they ended up eating all the chocolate and not doing their job at all, therefore ruining easter day. They tried to apologize to the bunny, but the rage transform him into a ... Mean evil rabbit boss. He summoned the help of the Easter chicks and cast a malediction; Easter would never be celebrate ever again. The easterans left everything they owned and run away. They created a new city called P

it's so pretty!
I need to participate!
Edit: I also started a little pinterest wall: https://de.pinterest.com/fenyce/polycount-artjam-easter-fantasy/ maybe it's useful for someone else.
I have no clue of what i'm doing to do >.< I'll probably do some stress relief concept of weapon but i won't do them.
I have hesitation between doing a small country house with a garden, or doing a public well. I think i'll do the well, but i'm not sure yet, i might find another idea.
great twist though!
not sure what to do yet mmmmmh we'll see
The theme inspired me right away, so I already did a concept (instead of studying which I REALLY should have done ).
I'm not sure yet though, whether I am going to model it. I am not going to have too much time this month, so maybe it would be wise to go for something smaller...I'll think about it.
Last month's jam was a lot of fun. I am looking forward to your work, everyone :-)
I so want to do that
@josfield man !! your concept is awsome

Anyway, got a bit of time so I made this... Hopefully I can finish my Comicon in time #_# Thank God its deadline was delayed.
I really like your design of your bunny as it looks like an egg. Good luck with your comiccon piece.
Happy easter ^-^
Everyone's stuff looks great so far.
pigart: You could make the chin a little smaller maybe.
Here's what I have so far for my rabbit. I started in zbrush but I'm not gonna use this for any maps, just to help make the lowpoly. I'm still messing around with the proportions, but I'll move on to painting by the 15th to make sure I have enough time for that, I work pretty slow :P.
The brown thing in the middle is the design I want to go on his back and the yellow thing around his neck is a droopy bowtie.
Is it going to be a evil machine gun bunny haha ? You could had the chick wearing those kind of sub-machine russian mafia guns haha
@Shurkuris nice scene block out, maybe you could move the whole scene a little bit to right. So that the egg could be implied and this would break up the centered composition.
And that's more Italian mafia
@poseidon Nice start ! I would put the blade way more pastel, right now it's really bright and i think more pastel color woul give it a better overall look
@nekhro that's some badasse looking bunette haha
on 3d coat i got some problems. if i paint on some places nothing happens on and only on uv does it work.
Easter Mace!~
Got my base colors down and starting to paint in some of the more interesting details. Any crits welcome!
Odow: Once I finish this mace I might just do that egg shield~
Really awesome concept!
This is super dope !
Here's the concept that I’ll be making. Going for bunny nunchucks (nun-chaku).
Odow: Great concepts. I hope someone takes you up on it and models these. The clear, simple design would be perfect for someone learning how to do handpainted textures. I almost did one myself. Maybe next time.
Poseiden: Nice, I'm doing a rapier too! I agree with Odow about changing the blade color to the pastel colors associated with Easter. I'd also bring some of those colors into the egg shell and handle.
robirobes: I think I've come across that same problem in a few of my models. Did you try resetting transforms on the model before exporting to 3DCoat? That usually fixes most problems. Might also want to check that you don't have any stray verts or flipped normals or anything like that in the surrounding area.
Here's my rapier weapon so far. Not sure if I'll get around to painting it, but I'll try and at least finish the model and post it up if anyone wants to paint it themselves.
Looking forward to the nunchucks though haha
@Gobliness: Thanks! Oh, chocolate rabbit nun chucks. Earlier, I was thinking about having a bite mark on them as if they were candy, but I'm not quite sure yet.
@Brian: lol, thanks!
IMO: If you do the bite you should do them in chocolate color, like they were made up by massive chocolate! (ever got hit by a chocolate bar that was ment for melting it? They are heavy and hard... and it hurts... haha!)
@fenyce: Sounds like you made some bad experiences with chocolate ;-)
@Shurkuris: I like the idea very much. Looking forward to the gangster-bunny!
@Gobliness: I was just about to write, that I miss some contrast in your model, maybe more details and colors in the egg. But I just read, that you are planning to put candy in the handle, which will probably solve my problem
@Odow: Youre concepts are awsome! Like them a lot!
Thanks for that BTW !
hope i find the time to finish it.
