There's always been a Direct Connect bit of the forum, if you're a registered user then there's bits and pieces of preview/news that get out there a bit earlier than they do to the public.
Generally, you're not missing much if you can't see it though :P
It's more like a, "hey, we're finally ready to show you something soon." Not a feature showcase. The teasing is just a tradition to get people hyped. I miss interacting with Brad though. He was usually entertaining and a bit more informative with these things.
Truthfully, I enjoyed the 701 build up ... Brad had a whole series of videos there which was fun. 801 launch was a bit of a dead fish but you can't win them all.
A great version, mind you, but the launch was definitely limp. Especially the hour long web cast event where basically ... nothing happened.

Was the 701 launch the one where they didn't have a release date, but it was hyped up a lot as you say, then BAM in your face new Modo out of the blue one day. I miss Modo and the Luxology/Foundry community
Hopefully it is a new pricing structure but I doubt it. There are no good payment options for the program which is a shame because I hear so many good things. I guess I could look at the Indie version on steam , but I heard that it is beyond watered down. Going free with their educational license like Autodesk does would be awesome though.
Its supposed to be an unwritten rule, kind of like fight club, you dont talk about fight club.
In this case, they really dont want you or anyone leaking that info, it kind of discourages them from teasing bits through direct connect, which is a hidden forum for registered modo users.
They will release the info when its ready for wider public consumption.

Yeah I cannot find any information about the student upgrade to commercial path cost. Maybe I should just use Modo Indie on Steam since it all seems really expensive.

Speaking of which any updates on scripts with Modo Indie?
I love using modo, but it's viewport has always been one of it's biggest drawbacks to me. I haven't checked the hype train in awhile - is this something they'll be addressing at all?
just browsed the new features list, interesting that meshfusion is now bundled with modo, 'bout time, though i knew the price would go up (hopefully, the upgrade prices won't go up, otherwise, we'll end up with another Autodesk)
The new radial align tool looks interesting, but i thought modo could already do that, (unless the guy making the video i watched a while ago used a script), also liking the look of the quad fill (another thing i thought Modo could already do), and the rectangle UV tool, that should make unwraping bent cylinders easier.
Though I'm starting to wish i'd waited until now to buy Modo, as they'd upgrade me to 901 for free, but i went and got it in the xmas sale (still at 40% off :P, so good deal all round)
Very nice new features but as an animator I'd be more willing to upgrade if there's a Modo plug-in for Epic's A.R.T. (currently Maya only far as I know).
So upgrade dollars go to gym membership for the time being :poly121:
This wasn't a complete list of new features in 901 today. This was just a teaser of a few things. There's a lot more info coming. It's releasing in late May.

They looked at a bunch of popular scripts and took their basic idea and integrated and improved on them. That's why a lot of it looks familiar.
We got some additional info about that tab last week. I don't know if it's public so I won't share, but that is probably the biggest reason I'm upgrading to 901.
Hnnng if that rectangular UV straightening method works on more complex geo (so not just a pipe) that'd be so good. SO GOOD. The slice with width is sweet too. And MikkTspace!? Hooray. Now it might actually be worth baking in modo; though I can't say exporting to xN is that big of a problem (and I'd be doing it anyway to get curvature and possibly AO)
the most important thing for me is viewport perfomance and general optimization for sculpting. I want Modo to be a concept art package like Zbrush but with precision and the lack of dynamic topology, autopo and lackluster perfomance for sculpting stands in the way. Also paint tools... well, I don't think it's in their focus. Clone tool hasn't been working since forever.

They said in the video presentation yesterday that the rectangle tool was not just for pipes and it was good for hard surface modeling. There's also the new linear align and radial align tools for UVs.
Nice improvements, but what I really want to know is can you script in the app itself yet, and are their any improvements to the viewport (realtime shadows, fx shaders, etc.)?

"Here's something I rendered using new features that I won't tell you about. Neat, huh!?"
"Uh, yeah ... thanks?"
Nox
It's a perk for existing customers is all.

I remember the 701 release. Brad Peebler just started to randomly tweet features about 701 and at the end he said it was available right away.

Apparently there's a "Scripting" Tab now too.
Edit: More info, render-related changes in 901.
