I picked up a project from my overdue todo pile and realized why I abandoned it. I started it around 2010 and went back to find tutorials on how to finish it with a novel little process called Fur Fin/Shells. To my surprise the original tutorials where all dead links and I waited for someone to answer my request for information on the subject to no avail.
Now, I'm looking at the same project and going back to find information on the very same subject and I'm seeing less information on the subject now than when I first started and I'm wondering if anyone out there still remembers how to do it.
The last remaining relevant information I can find seems to be on the PolyCount Wiki pointing to a conversation on CGtalk about the Shell/Fin process and there are more than a few holes in the tutorial that would adequately explain to someone how to accomplish this feat.
Anyone out there know how to do this or is it just another lost skill?

Thanks for the info! I'd show what I'm working on but the first pass always look like ass. Now I just need to figure out how to control the shell thickness/direction in certain places. Lroy said he used the move (slide) bursh. I assume he meant in the sculpting tools in Maya though I've been having little luck having the brush affect all of my shells =/ it seems like its the top shell or nothing.
