The folds in my jacket could use some critiques

Hey Polyfriends

I'm sculpting this leather jacket for a character and I feel like I could really benefit from some feedback as far as these folds in the fabric are concerned. I'm planning on doing fabric studies in the future, but for right now any guidance on this piece would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It's a good start, from a technical sculpting standpoint, but the actual design of the jacket is what's throwing this off the most. Do you have any real photo ref for what kind of leather you're going for, and what state it's in? There's a lot of kinds of leather, and a huge variety of wear within that.

Like, honestly, find a picture of a girl in a leather jacket that matches what you're going for. It will save you so much wasted effort.

I think your seams/panels/etc are kind of weird for a form fitting female jacket, for one thing. There's no taking the form of the breasts into account here, so logically it should be draping/baggy/tight across-- unless she was vacuum-sealed into it. It could have a cut like this where there's sort of side-panels (this seems pretty common in fitted leather), or it could maaaaybe have darts (sewn in tapering, see this pic) I suppose-- but if it's real leather I have doubts about that working/being a thing that's done.

Some of the folds seem inconsistent or strange, too, but again; I don't know what references, if any, you're using.

I'm going to have to second what BagelHero said. Instead of planning on doing fabric studies sometime in the future, you should find good reference and then make this your first fabric study! :)

That's good advice. I might cut my losses, find some ref I can work from and restart this one. Thanks guys!
