Push FX Textures for nicer VFXs

Hi Polycount!

I´m a young GameFX Artist and new at the Industry. I will upgrade my skills for creating VFX Textures. We used a simple GameEngine why i can´t do many with the Shader.

Also I will push more over the Texture (and the FX Animation), but i have not really a idea how i can push this Textures.

I can use many different Software for FX Texture.
  • Maya for Fluids Creation
  • After Effects for Sprite and Animated Textures
  • Photoshop

Here two example of differnet kinds of my FX textures.
Left for a soft Attack swing and right for hard quick impact Ring.

Have anything idea or tips for me write it down.

    Use multiple textures and layers. Use animated textures. Try to break down effects from other games. Substance designer might be worth a try if painting them by hand isn't your thing.

    I used animated Textures, FX Mesh with Distortion and without and single Textures.

    Yes i looked many Games or effect break downs and analyse this sometimes frame per frame.
    But this will not really help for create FX Textures from scratch.

    I have seen some Texture but you i will learn how to create something like that. I´m not a good Drawing Artist that why i will learn it for this FX Textures.

    Layer up multiple effects and time them well to create one effect eg an explosion on dirty soil might have these effects 1. bright flash 2.soil debris explosion 3.flame blast 4. smoke after the blast . I use tga a lot which allows me to experiment with my alpha channel while keeping my diffuse the same, pay attention to your alpha channel and make sure the edges look good and the particles blend well with eachother. Final part of the effect may be some post processing if the engine can afford to do that.
