Help me understand Zbrush's edit and draw modes

I'm trying to make a tiling texture using wrap mode and the tilde to move the canvas around. I use draw mode to drag out a square, hit T to enter edit mode, divide, sculpt a little, and now I want to move it around. The tilde thing only works when I'm in draw mode, so I hit T to enter draw mode, move it around to check out how it looks and now I want to do a little more sculpting. But now I'm stuck in draw mode. Hitting T does nothing and I have no idea how to get back to edit mode. Help?

I just want to understand when I can and can't go back to edit mode and why. Is there a better workflow for tiling textures?

You can only be in edit mode once. If you change your mind in the middle of something and press "T" once again Zbrush will drop any subtool or mesh to a 2.5d caneva. You need to get used to it.

Like everyone else you can also create a tilling texture with it this way and "grab" the created background as a mesh or texture and so and so.
