Hey guys so I am thinking about learning to model Human Anatomy because I think that way I will be able to improve my Props/Environment skills too. Today I have been working in a head just to give it a try but I was using an image of another 3D Head model with wireframe on so I don't think I deserve any credits for what I achieved but I was in need to do a lil work for a school project.

But with this experience I started to think about learning more about Modeling Human Anatomy and I would like some crits, help and tips. Any good tutorials, books, etc would be great :D

This is the image I used as a reference:

This is the result I got:

I would say that's a good start for a basemesh. You're not going to learn anatomy this way only, so I'd recommend to model the full body too and start using it as a basemesh for sculpting. You can choose from ZBrush, Mudbox, 3D Coat, Blender etc.

Thanks, I will do that when I get some free time. I also saw somewhere that if you draw over the ref pictures how the wireframe should look like it helps a lot, do you guys agree?

Hey, let me start by saying that I don't exactly see a direct relation of learning anatomy to improve your prop/environments, despite that as a student you probably should try a few things and decide what you want to do based on what you enjoy doing, actually doing and studying it for many many hours.
Also depending on your goals and your location it might be requested of you to do some character work, if for instance you plan to work on very small local studios.

As for the work itself, basing an anatomy study on a low poly base mesh will not help you, you can look at that wireframe if you want to get some guidance for your topology later, but it would be better to study actual heads.
If you have a tablet and a sculpting software like zbrush start from there by always looking at reference and trying to get as close to it as possible.
Also check out other threads you can find valuable information and mistakes in other people's work that you do too and apply critique made for them on you.

ps: Check the Polycount Wiki it has tons of useful info for anything you might need.

Thanks Firith. I tought that if I model a character then having to do the clothes and objects is a great way to improve my prop modeling skills, also I think this could help me improving more organic shapes, but yeah maybe I should focus on props/environment.

Also thanks for the references and tips, I'll give characters a try then I'll decide if I want to stick with props/environment or characters.
