Natural way of set dressing a blocked road in rural environment?

I'm looking for a way to block off a road that would be believable in a quiet riverside town in Missouri. Obviously the roadblocks/ Army/ Rubble cliche's aren't going to do the job for this, does anyone have any ideas or where to look?
The scene is a couple of houses in a suburban setting with a library and church, with a riverside and river on the other side of the road.
