Doing work for my portfolio and i sketched out a cool female armor design i wanted to use.Im going for a stylized look something kinda like tera online meets darksiders.
Here is the sketch:
Blocking out some of the armor. I started adding the rough details of where im gonna put armor layers on the shoulder plates and chest. The shoulder plates are giving me the most trouble due to having to make them look like they are actually attached to the breast plate vs them floating off her shoulders.
Looking pretty good! just a few notes for your consideration before you jump into retopo:
- Watch out for how you've sculpted the heels, you really might need more ref. They're attached strangely, and it looks a bit amateurish-- you drew them just fine so you probably just need to spend a bit more time down there.
- Her boobs are squished up and weird. It kind of looks like there're some invisible hands tuggin' on 'em. Is she vaccuum sealed into her outfit every morning? The cleft between her boobs shouldn't really be there unless she has something heavy sitting in between them, or the cleavage isn't covered by fabric at all.
Find some refs of real girl's breasts and how they react to gravity. Just generally, the forms you have here are a bit off anyways.
Obviously, spending more time looking at refs like the ones you showed above as well. Not always realistic, but at least aesthetically appealing and believable.
Good start! I think you can push a little bit more before retopo.
In your sketch you have many cool shapes going on and you didn't follow them through in your sculpt.
For instance the shoes have hard edges in the sketch but are pretty round in the 3D.
This is something that goes for the whole model, you have round shapes almost everywhere plus your details like extra panels etc are very superficially done and are not separate geometry.
You could benefit a lot from pushing all those extra shapes and giving silhouete and definition to your character.
Also the material you are using doesn't work very well for understanding form, it can be a personal preference, but you could try something like this, it 's free from BadKing

Links that might be helpful (goes without saying that the links all contain boobs and are somewhat nsfw):
