@uohmI would add some moss between the crack to make it even cooler !
@port-seven maybe add the Guinness logo on the glass ?
Due to some time-issue and "meh" from the conceptartist within me, i decided to revised my concept, instead of doing a melting pot of many random objects I will do a diorama of a green meadow with a tree and old fences. ^-^
@Megacorpse: Nice progress on the horse. I think your stylization is reading well, even if you feel like you've missed the anatomy. (I know the feeling....)
@uohm: Nice henge. Looking forward to seeing it in 3D! I'm not sure why others didn't think of doing this!
@Port-Seven: I'm loving your pint glass. Looks great! You could add some edge highlights around the holes to make it look like they're a bit beveled and that would add some shininess to the metal texture. Depending on the scale of your texture, you might be able to get away with a scratch or two to help sell the metal. (No surface is safe from damage in a kitchen!)
@Odow: I'll miss your sheep, but good luck on your new idea.
@Maher: It might be better to use some actual currency as reference? I feel like the skull don't really fit. Here's the wiki page on Irish Currency.
@ahmed mohamed: أنا سعيد لأنك تحب الموضوع. أنا آسف إذا كان هذا يبدو غريب، أنا باستخدام جوجل ترجمة. (I'm glad you like the topic. I'm sorry if this sounds weird, I'm using Google Translate.)
Maher: Is the darker yellow in the middle of your coins supposed to be of a different material or do you want to imitate depth with that, like a stamp? In the secound case I would use a less warm yellow, because warm colors usually make something seem to protrude.
samitk89: Funny idea with the beard ;-) I think that its parts might be a bit to regular in size and distribution over his face. Maybe you could make him look more interesting when you distribute the curls more randomly.
@josh, your reference has heavy flash on it so the color is tone down but leather is kind cloudy, when not tinted, it's really a plain color , there's variation in it, try a cloudy bush to make does variation. also leather always has a certain grain to it, and scratch are easily made on it like you can see on your reference.
I was going to do a Claddagh ring but I decided to work them into a made up Irish folklore called "Lover's Bridge" instead.
The basic idea is that the bridge bestows blessings upon couples who kiss in the middle of it, kind of like kissing the Blarney Stone for luck. I might do more of a little write up on the history of the bridge as I go as well.
I still haven't decided what level of decrepitude this bridge and it's surroundings will be in, so expect a couple more passes on the modelling before I figure out textures.
IF I have time I'll do a little waterfall texture animation.
Looking forward to seeing more of everyone's work!
Cheers!
P.S. The character model is from the awesome Torchlight series and is used only as a scale reference and won't be in the final diorama.
Port-Seven : Thanks, tried correcting that. darkmag07 : I made minor corrections but nothing too fancy, the rest will come from the texture. In the end I'm pretty happy with it, Zremesher sure can save some time.
Update with some hair, doing the tail now. That chest patch might be a bit too fluffy.
@megacorpse There's no such thing as "too fluffy", Maybe make it blend a bit more with the bellyneck, on the top. (see the paintover to understand) also this is totally my personal little princess girl preference but i prefer when horse have really nice long tail, is so pretty when they are groom.
Also i took the liberty of turning it into a unicorn, because unicorn are awesome.
I like the idea Megacorpse! Maybe a few "real-sized" cloverleaves around her could help already... or I increase the size of the buttons on her head.
@uohm: I would add a few faint nuances of a different color to the gray. Looking forward to the plant-part. I want to add some to my model, too, but I have no experience with that. Maybe I can get some inspiration from yours ;-)
Jeni Newbi -- I like the way your ribbon falls. Maybe add another edge so the bend doesn't look so sharp on the piece to the right? I also like the idea of the stacked coins but I don't think the silhouette is very strong right now with that single column. I'd put a few more stacks around it so the shape reads more like a jagged pyramid.
Here's my update: second attempt at a brass material for the tap (still a WIP in some places), tried to paint more spec into the grate, and added a bit of reflection to the glass. I still have to find a nice way to attach the tap to the grate. I will put the Guinness logo on eventually, too.
I had a green beer last night and thought it would be great to make as well if time permits! A stein glass would be a pretty good texturing challenge I think.
I start working on my diorama. I hide all the planes because there's going to be a tones of plant and just gray plane doesn't look good haha. the grass is a temp texture. I'm going to post more wip on my thread so i don't spamm here too much.
Hi everyone. Sorry i haven't posted my progress for some time. too lazy
Here's my progress on the diorama so far. Lots of stuff is still missing, but i hope to finish it this week.

I need a beer so bad right now after seeing this. So good!
Agreed on the yellow barrel, luckily i've set up my shader so i can tint the texture in few clicks
Port-Seven, that Guinness is looking so delicious, can't wait for the weekend..
@Uberren
Thank you. I have the same thoughts like you. I will try something with a horseshoe buckle. I really like you're squirrel. A small animation would be cool.
Thanks for the comments, guys. I'm glad my beer looks drink worthy!
Uberren -- nice presentation
Gadorian -- I think the water is working pretty nicely in your scene
darkmag07 -- love the colours
Update: made the grate smaller, almost 'personal sized' for the one lonely glass of beer... I'm going to have to fix some tiling issues if I choose to keep it like this, or redo it into something like this:
Wanted to join in on this, but found this thread out not too long ago after GDC. Been working on the Polycount Tower during most of this month. It might be off from the guidelines, as I didn't post any WIPs of my work on this, but I've added a rough concept of the idea I was going for. I hope to start on next month for this earlier on, and will post some WIPs of it.
I was inspired by the work that was already posted here and created a Leprechaun hat, full of gold, as if it was dropped to the floor. Comments and critiques are welcome. I would definitely like to participate on this more.
Hey Guys ! I know we have some beginners here, so I create a Pinterest board to put some useful information about light, painting and color. Not hand paint tutorial, but things that are important to know ! Feel free to poke me on skype or MP me so I can add your useful tips! Pinterest Board
What's a good program to use for a final render/screen grab of our hand painted stuff other than grabbing a screenshot from Max or Maya (unless this is the best way to do this)? I hardly ever do hand painted textures, and I'm assuming that as a final render our finished pieces shouldn't have any added ao from lights, etc. that you'd get if you were to use an engine? What do you guys generally do to present something like this?

EDIT: Does anyone know why half of my model turns black in 3ds max after taking a still image of my viewport?

Will be going into more detail next before adding some accessories to Irish her up.
Agreed with darkmag07 regarding your coins, Maher. Looks more like pirate treasure at the moment.
The belt does not look like leather yet. Maybe some of you are experienced with that? This was my reference:

Hi all!
Lovin' the work in this thread so far!

Here is an update:
Next, some time on plant life- i really need to work more on plants and will probably add more greenery as I go.
Moss in the cracks is on the list.

pretty stuff guys keep on ^-^
This is my latest hand paint work! I hope u Like!
Where's the lipstick ?
Here's my prop for the challange. Just filled in some basic colors for now.

@Jeni Newbi I think the coin pile would look better on the floor next to the pot.
@port-seven oh that brass is looking nice !
Gonna move on to some accessories now
@Port-Seven
Really liking the texture on that tap
Just a super small update from mine:
Gave the squirrel something to sit on.
Edit: Just threw this together
Here's my progress on the diorama so far. Lots of stuff is still missing, but i hope to finish it this week.
These are the textures i created so far. (wip)
Cheers.
@Ren this is really cute ^-^I like the final touch !
@Gadorian Looking great so far ! Maybe the barrel is bit too yellow.
Now it's time for some retopology.
Looking really peaceful, I want to relax there
I agree with Odow though, the barrel may be a bit too yellow, currently.
@Odow thanks ^-^
@Bishop313 Nice sculpt. I know you're moving on to retopo already but it feels like his belt is missing a buckle at the moment :P
I need a beer so bad right now after seeing this. So good!
@Odow: Looks like a great start.
@Gadorian: Looks like solid progress.
@Bishop313: I love how it's turned out, can't wait for more! His pose really sells it!
Not sure how I want to handle her boots, but meh. I'll go back to working on her Pony for a bit and see if inspiration strikes.
Port-Seven, that Guinness is looking so delicious, can't wait for the weekend..
Thank you. I have the same thoughts like you. I will try something with a horseshoe buckle. I really like you're squirrel. A small animation would be cool.
@darkmag07
Thank you. Let's see how it works on lowpoly with color.
The face of your girl looks pretty. You're right the boots need some more detail, but not that much i think. Maybe some straps and a shoe tongue for her boots like in the link below?!
http://images2.chictopia.com/photos/ZooShoo/8497847128/brown-madden-girl-boots_400.jpg
Oh it's so cute! Turned out really good!
Love that the squirrel is holding a four-leaf clover!
Uberren -- nice presentation

Also started on the Guinness logo.
An update on the Pony.

I think it looks quite nice for what it is.
I would say you could push the strap and buckle on the hat a bit more though, as right now it is reading very flat.
Here's a good explanation about color palette !
