Hi PolyCommunity,

I have question about smoothing groups when exporting from Maya to FBX file. In settings I can un/check this option, but I dont see any difference with or without this option in exported files. Please correct me if I am wrong when I think we have Maya which use different smoothing as 3ds Max, Maya convert Soft/Hard edges to smoothing groups as have 3ds Max, that means every vertex has computed normals based on smoothing groups. My problem is when import back FBX files to Maya I dont see any difference between these meshes with smoothing groups and without. I created simple sphere where some faces or edges are hard and everything else has soft edges and after importing back look same, only lost soft/hard edges (don't remember) but remember right smoothing groups (normals) as was exported based on soft/hard edges. Something me missed ?

arghh you struggle with a thing that is so simple, smoothing groups options export whatever is smooth meaning that if you had a bunch of soften edges it will be export, if else all face/edges are hard.
