So I've been working on a model, but since the model its kinda complex for me I decided to work on it by separating it on different pieces, so for example, I did the head on a single 3Ds Max file, then on another file I've been working on the torso, and I have to point out that they're made of different pieces too, like the head its little more than 10 objects (I'm doing the same with the torso)
So here's the question, I was about to setup the UV's and materials to the torso, BUT... I was wondering how can I export the torso (made out of multiple objects, along with multiple materials) so when I import it on a new 3Ds Max File it opens with the different materials applied, I already know to make material libraries.
I hope my questions is clear TwT
if you find it confusing please let me know!, I really need help because I'm stuck

If I import an 3ds max file into an empty scene the materials are there but not in the (compact) material editor.
If you import it into a populated scene which already has materials with the same name 3dsmax asks you which material you want to use or if you want to rename the incoming one. If you choose "use scene material" your imported objects might end up with different materials (but they have still the same name)
(Sorry for my late reply and my noobie question)
Thanks rollin for the reply
Let me try to setup an easy example of what I mean
1.- Lets say I'm modeling a wall
2.- But lets suppose that the wall its so complex that I've decided to model it by pieces, 4 different objects make my wall.
3.- Then I've applied a different material to each one of the objects
So basically I have a single model that its made out of 4 different objects, and each object has a different material applied, my question is how can I import my wall into a different 3ds max scene? (with the materials applied to each object)
I Like using XRef because I can control what to bring into another project.
XRef workdlow: File>Xref>XRef Object (Don't use XRef Scene)
You'll get a window, the top left button allows adding meshes from another scene. Bring in the mesh you want.
Keep the window open, select the object and in the lower section is a list of all the assets tied to the mesh/scene. Find the material, right click and select "Merge into Scene" (or something along those lines)
If you don't see it in your material editor, it's because it is not added to it, but it is referenced by the scene. To add it to the material editor, select the mesh, select a material to replace, then go to Material>Get Material. This will get the material of the selected object and replace it with the material you selected to replace.
