it was all in ZBrush. I sculpted about 6 bricks back and front (that would give you 12 different bricks to play with). I took them to max so I can tile them with the grid based (its faster that way for me), then send it back to ZBrush and got the tile normal map. From there I used Knald for the AO and height map extraction.
once I cleaned up the normal tile a bit that comes from Zbrush, I test the tile with knald using the 3D previewer, and while am at it I just get the AO and height from it. It gives me pretty good result so far, especially on the height
@pmiller001 No I didn't apply a noise to a plane. I sculpted the grout using mainly the clay brush and the hPolish, the detail normal map came afterwards while texturing
narticus: At first I was happy with what I had, then I like it more when the both ends where up and down are not the same so I changed that.
here you can see the full tile. You will still see the tiling however, I will need a blend map to paint over the texture so you can't see the obvious tile.
Sorry about the poor quality of the pic this was super quick
Either way it is a very nice material, and figuring out how to get rid of tiling should be relatively easy.
Could you explain the blend map that you would use to paint over the texture?
I'm planning on making a plastered brick wall that would blend easily with this texture while using the option of vertex paint mode in UE4, but for now I just wanted to focus on a brick wall

I hope this helps
What'd you do about the grout between the bricks? did you just apply some noise to a plane in zbrush?
