I am remaking the explosive c4 pack from Counter strike Global offensive. I had a sudden burst of inspiration to go do this, so I thought I might as well harness my eagerness and get something done.
My goal is not to create a perfect replica, but to create a 'next-gen' recreation. So things will likely look different than the original.

This is my progress so far:
I will be changing some pieces, like the glue I added around the screen, and the welded parts. I need to add something to the keypad unit to hold it up, in the original design its just floating above some sockets, so I might add some screws which hold it up.
I will probably be using mudbox or sculptris to add detail to the packaging, I might make it more rippled and crumpled, instead of neatly wrapped like the original.
I will probably also try and add more detail to the circuit board, as the CS GO texturing is fairly smooth and has minimal details.

in reality it will look more like this:
I made the weld and the glue using the welder script
The CSGO one also has a more authentic shape of the frame, the height, the corner bevels, all look more plausible
here is the one they seem to have used as ref, comes up a lot on google
The corners and bevels are very important to convey that authentic part look
The digit display could also be higher and the straps are very loose
Also look at transistors, the ones you did i think are not looking real : P
On the reference you can see a cylinder with a lighter strip running down on edge
I added a bit more thickness to the keypad, I think it looks better. I also made the keys slightly thicker.
I added two wires coming from the battery, I still need to fix the straps. I might just remove some of the waviness, so it looks like its pulled tighter.
Additionally I made the little piece underneath the keypad longer, to allow room for zip ties.
I made a singular piece that can be tiled. I am not sure how to about deforming it to the path though, it ends up distorting when I try and do it by adding loops and moving them.
Eh, I guess good results take time
Do you know any good tutorials for doing this technique?
I tried it with the shape both horizontal and vertical.
I have the line set up and the shape I want. I have tried sweep and loft, but neither work
Your method with the cylinders actually looks better than mine anyways, I think I tried to over complicate it
