Working on Lava

Hey all lava is something i always thought was cool. In this thread im going to concept and make lava in 3d by the end of this month. My style is hand painted ill show you all a rock warm up i did to show you my art. please give feedback i love learning from all sorts of places. The reason im doing a lava thread is because lava rock is really hard for me it looks like a dog turd.:poly136:

ok here we go with a warm up of some rocks i love making textures in spheres. As of now there is no lighting its basically in unlit mode later i will be adding lighting but for now i just want to get form and shape.

Think its time to move to the next stage and start sculpting i think zbrush would be cool to make a lava cylinder. Any feedback on the concept would be awesome :poly136:

I've been looking at this thread, and maybe I can help! Have you seen the hand painted lava in World of Warcraft, there is loads of it at the moment, especially with the release of Blackrock Foundry, and the previous raid from MoP Siege of Orgrimmar. Your concepts have a similar texture about them. I've attatched an image that I went off for reference a while ago when I did some hand painted lava textures (I can't find the files, I'm hopeless) NONETHELESS, here!

Thank you for your post this is a great reference. I do want to make lava similar to hers but with my own style to it, im in zbrush now
