Well, my question is about the connectivity with Steam, if you plan to release it there too. If I preorder the update from designer 4 on the web, will I have access to the application in steam?

I have the comment regarding Steam. I had made my purchase through Steam and it would be great to be able to upgrade through there as well :-).

If someone has a pro copy of SD (purchased before the indie license was available) but meets requirements for the indie version, would they be able to upgrade at the indie price if they also downgraded to an indie license?

About the Steam question: When you create an account on our website, you can link your Steam account to your Allegorithmic account in your profile. Once this is done, you will be able to upgrade like if you had bought a regular non-steam license of SD4.

I like new features but is that all or do you have more surprises in store? Like a lattice warp node for example? or may be something even better, like [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqeTJjN-ckM"]Krita's warp[/ame]?

That's what we are shipping with 5.0. There will be tons of new features and content coming during the 5.x cycle, some of it being already in internal beta. We have some exciting stuff in stores for the coming year

Err, looks like I get to buy Designer two times in two months since I bought it for Christmas. So close, but it still looks like some really cool features. Can't wait to see how Designer and Painter continue to grow and work together.

KIND of sucks that these were on special for xmas Steam sales and now the upgrade is only free for those who bought after Jan 1st. Just saying...

I get your frustration, but if we gave the upgrade for free to everyone who got SD4 for a very very low price already during the sales, that's a lot of money we couldn't put back in developing the tools further unfortunately.
SD will have a lot of free updates along the 5.X cycle and I can assure you it will be worth the money. But in the end, no one is forced to upgrade to 5.0, you can upgrade later on and keep using 4.X until you think it's worth it

I remember SD4 being a free upgrade for those who bought SD3. I bought SD3 on some UDK sale with 75% discount and I got a free upgrade a year or so after that so I can't complain. With 100 000 dollar limit for indie version I think Allegorithmic is pretty generous with pricing. I think I'll downgrade to Indie version and upgrade to SD5 when I need it.

Hey Jeremie, is there a roadmap or planned features for Designer besides the uservoice? Not that it will sway me in any way :P The pixel processor node looks awesome.

We don't have a public roadmap out yet. We will disclose some very neat R&D stuff during our incoming user group at GDC though, more on that soon!

If I've learned anything this past year from the games industry it's that pre-ordering stuff is stupid and you should not do it... But i think i can make an exception in this case

Every time the Steam question is asked the wrong answer is given, so I'll answer with what I think is right (as this used to be the case):

If you have a license on Steam, you can get a regular license on Allegorithmic's webstore as well. The steam link only works one way though, so if you have a license on their website, you don't get a Steam key by linking your Steam account.

The upgrade preorder (and discount) is only on their webstore, and when 5 launches on steam it won't have the discount anymore. (this is mentioned by Allegorithmic on the Steam community)

Unless they just mail out a steam key to everyone, what you need to do to get this on Steam is to email their (extremely helpful) support, and they will send you a steam key.
