Mac or Windows and Hardware Requirements for 3D Modeling

I have both Mac and Windows computers, and was wondering which platform you recommend for 3D Modeling (Maya, Modo, ZBrush, etc). Also, does my hardware such as GPU, RAM, CPU matter that much?

A way to be informed is to consult the "system requirements" of your software of choice:

    - Maya

    - Modo

    - ZBrush

    - etc.

CPU - If you want the best performance single threaded and in app performance, go with an i-series Intel processor. If you want the best bang for your buck purely for rendering and multi-threaded performance, go with AMD. If you just want the best overall get an Intel i7.

RAM - 4gb is probably the bare minium I'd suggest on an extreme budget, at least 8gb is preferred, but up to 16gb is the most you will ever need today unless you are doing certain workloads that require more.

GPU - Most people will say go with Nvidia, they tend to work better with 3d applications and have less driver issues. I have seen AMD cause some weird display port bugs. Any dedicated GPU will offer a good experience, newer series GPUs will offer more real time features and better support for new APIs like DX12. GTX 970 is a great option.

Windows is a lot more flexible, tends to get newer applications first, and has a lot more smaller tools and plug-ins that can really help and speed up work. Windows computers are easier to keep updated as well and cheaper.
