Hi so i'm working on a scene at the moment (my first entire scene) and i'm using marmoset to quality check my models but i can't really build the scene in marmoset x)
So i was wondering what options there were for me to set up my scene? Because it seems there aren't any that are free and i don't really want to shell out every month to use UE or CryEngine x)

Just to clarify on this, because OP mentioned them both, UE works like this (pay one month then cancel and you can keep using it), whereas AFAIK if you cancel a CryEngine sub you will no longer have access to it.
UE4 is definitely the way to go these days
"Unity’s new Standard Shader is physically-based for higher visual quality, a more intuitive workflow for artists and faster iteration. And to answer popular question – yes, we want this shader to be available to all Unity users including Unity Free."
It automatically keeps you subscribed until the month is over, even if you cancel. I find it's better to cancel right away, so you don't forget about it and accidentally pay for another month.
I believe that the school has to sign up for UE4 in order for students to receive the free licenses. I tried this last semester, and the administration wasn't interested.
Also, if you do end up going with UE4, you should check out this showcase asset. I used it in a previous project and it was a nice and quick way to light/preview something.

That changed months ago with the Github deal, all you need now is a student email or proof that you are in school.
