Hi I'm currently preparing myself ahead of time before I start writing my first wave of job apps and would like to know if a personal site is preferred by employers to showcase your work.

i intend to work with 3D models in either the video game or film industry.

I am sure an online folio is required and so I'm also wondering if there are any alternatives to a personal site? say Artstation for example, which is much cleaner than the likes of Deviantart.

That said, do most employers want a tailored portfolio sent with the resume?

Thanks guys, any input is appreciated!

the better you are, the more known your are, the better connected you are, the lower the need for a personal website.

i've met people in the industry with mindblowing skills, who never had any internet representation.

Everyone wants something they can click. That's all !

I've been involved in hiring at least 100 people in the course of my time in the industry. I can't speak for all employers, but blogs, ArtStations, and even Deviant Art galleries are all acceptable portfolios. Even just a zip file with a bunch of images and a resume doc is acceptable.

Unless you are a web / graphic designer. Then you need a fancy web page.

Even if you are a graphic designer you don't need one. We hired a new creative director and all his projects were on a squarespace page.

note: I work at an advertising studio.

Thanks for the response guys! I'm a little hesitant to create my own site because its not something I particularly enjoy doing. Though I might get around to it.

Good to know alternative folio sites are accepted!

    +1

just make sure image quality is good, and if there's any doubt of what you did in a given video or image, provide a description of how you contributed.
