Hey everyone,

Last time I posted a wow weapon and got a load of awesome feedback! I was hoping you could spare some more time to give some feedback on the next weapon.

Weapon is based on:

Took the purple one as its my favorite color:

After I finished the purple model I tried to mess around in photoshop to change the colors:

Also messing around with sketchfab so this is mainly a test:

If you have time to spare and are willing to give me some more feedback I would be very grateful :D

Thanks in advance

From the silhouette it looks good and also the basic color scheme & forms (edges etc.) are good, but ... :D

The texture still looks to "clean".
I would add a little more shadow and dirt to it. Hand-Painted textures really get there "pling" by the painted shadows/dirt, especially the WoW ones. :)

If you put this in an engine you could probably just use some material masks to enable realtime colour changes. and then get some nice bloom going on.

    Hey,

Thanks for the comments for starters.

I've made an attempt at making the blade "Dirtier" but found it hard to find stuff like tutorials on it. Would have any advice on tutorials out there?

This is the newest version AKA the "Dirtier" version:

Edit: forgot to add the first version for comparison:

I would suggest the "hand painted weapon" tutorial from Tyson Murphy (Lead Character Artist at Blizzard), it's very good and give a good insight to Blizzards unique art style

Check out the Vertex Documents by ArtbyPapercut. I know the first one has some cool tutorials on handpainted work that may be useful.

XRG just did an in depth video series on hand painted weapons. It might prove helpful to watch it, but what you've done so far is looking great (unless you want to grit it up).

i think the one main thing the blizz artist did that im not seeing in yours is the cast light from the glow in the texture of the sword. especially on the hilt you can see a lot of nice cast light on it.

Your sword looks nice, but I still think it's too clean and pretty. :)

You could stand to add more dark dirt gathered in the crevices. Right now, your crevices are crisp and thin, whereas the original has crevices that have a wider darkened area.

Also, I think the dirt you added in the latest version is a bit too cloudy looking. A lot of the surface irregularity in the original comes from using hard brushes with a fairly high opacity. They don't use soft brushes and smooth gradients as much, and you can still see a lot of the brush strokes. It gives the surface a lot of tooth that is still missing in yours.

Thanks for all the feedback once again.

Getting the dirt feel is really hard though and im having a tough time with it. This is my most recent version where i tried to implement some of the feedback:

    New:

Once again if you have time to spare and are willing to give feedback it is much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance
