Hey guys! This is my first competition I am entering and I'm looking forward to seeing how everyone's work shapes up!
My name is Tom, I am a 3D/2D artist currently studying at the University of Huddersfield.
The main inspiration for the project comes from the likes of Fallout and anything post-apocalyptic and sci-fi. The name itself "Nuclear Throne" comes from one of my favorite Indie Games (although doesn't really have anything to do with it haha). I will be posting a few mood-boards to help people get a feel of what I am trying to achieve along with a few sketches before I start!
Do have a look and give me some feedback!
Software:
Autodesk Maya
Photoshop
Unreal 4
Zbrush
Marmoset Toolbag 2

First concept sketch + First blockout
Still blocking out. None of these models will be final.
Looking forward to seeing it in-engine
Approaching the final stages of the blockout at the moment! After the blockout/Unreal Engine export run through phase has passed I am going to start drafting up a few ideas for the throne (which I should have probably done already haha) which I think will pull the entire scene in together. Cant wait!
That escalated quickly
Looks like somewhere that the Toxic Crusader might hang out..
Imported the blockout into Unreal 4 and roughly applied some basic materials and lighting. I didn't think the blockout would look as good as it does in the engine so Im quite happy with the results!
Blockout is done now. Hopefully the basic throne shape can provide everyone with the scale of the environment as I agree it looked a bit confusing at first glance. This was because there were two barrels sizes and the bridges were too big. The throne at the moment doesnt look very defined but I'll make sure this isnt the case with the real scene. Modelling time
High Poly Barrel | Low Poly Barrel/Column
The barrel was a very important asset for my scene as I will populate the scene with them, plus there are structures which also include barrels in them such as the columns near the throne. When tackling this I am going to create a low-poly barrel (A basic cylinder) and also a more detailed barrel which I will placed intelligently so the detail is noticeable.
Particularly the use of bold color like that.
Acid ^^.
I think yes you have a problem of composition for your throne.
Here an example of how I would correct that:
Don't hesitate to take a break at any moment take a screenshot and go to Photoshop to see how you could get better.
Just implementing some of my models Im going to be using in the final piece to see how they look. Although I am going to be changing the positioning of the throne and the wreckage which it stands on before I go any further. Alot of work done today haha. Goodnight.
Finished Barrels of death.
(Variation 1)
But it's up to you, and this is, of course, only my opinion.
Cheers!
@william21984 Thank you!
I havent updated for a while due to other University projects and deadlines but this will be finished! Here are some models I have done today.

I have a reading week from University now so expect alot more updates daily.
