Hey man, if this is your first time doing concept art, then you should really focus on doing iterative thumbnails. Trying to finish the first thing that comes to mind can be really difficult and unrewarding.
Lots of good tips and tricks to help you get started. I'd suggest to do a few pages of quick scribbles in the general shape of a knife, don't worry about presentation, just get ideas and shapes down as quickly as possible, and if it looks bad/boring/messed up, then just do another one, no commitment needed.
Avanthera, thanks for the article!!!!! Believe me, I've been through about 5-9 pages of scribbles in my sketchbook; the dagger was my favorite so I picked it as my 1st project. Again, thanks for the article; it's going to help out chingos (aka a shit load)!
