Hello again Polycount!
For my next project I am working on this concept.
So far I have created a high poly and moved into zbrush to sculpt some finer details.
I am have a slight issue on how to approach sculpting the patternes round the top part of the hammer though. My initial approach was to use projection master on the flattened UV so that they would wrap nice and evenly around the cylindrical parts of the hammer. However this doesn't want to work as after I have dropped the projection and unflatten the patterns disappear.
Could someone explain what it is i'm doing wrong here or recommend a different method?
Worst case senerio I might have to split the projection in to 3 and drop it on the sides and on the top separately.
Please advise and leave feedback. Thank you.

Maybe this could help ? I've seen more and more people using the noisemaker to apply patterns.
Anyway, I kinda suggest that you try to be closer to the concept in terms of details and style. For example the grip and the small patterns on the handle, you did some simple stuff instead of trying to reproduce the concept, which has more interesting patterns.
Having watched the videos in the link you provided, this might be a better alternative than just modelling it.
Here is my plan of action:
For the patterns on the handle I will model the alphas for the noise maker to apply. I will then mask out the areas I don't want it.
For the patterns on the hammer itself, I will create the alphas in photoshop.
I will keep you posted.
