Ok, the time has finally come to share this. This years GDC is about to see it's biggest and best dedicated Art event yet. After 6 months of very hard work from everyone involved it is my pleasure to unveil to you guys the Art Direction Bootcamp!
Art Direction is not just something art directors do. Art direction is in every brush stroke we lay down and in every vertex we move. It is the idea that you're trying to communicate and the emotion you put into it. It is the dialogue that you're having with you're audience while the tools are just means for delivery.
If you care about art we would be privileged to see you join us in San Francisco on March 2 for an entire day of deep and thought provoking art discussion from the absolute best in the business. If you're going to GDC - don't miss it!
Now I usually don't ask people to share anything, but this is a special one. So many people poured their heart into this that I just have to humbly ask each and everyone of you to share this with you art friends. Unfortunately we are unveiling pretty late as far GDC pass buying season goes and we need to raise as much awareness as we can. If you would consider sharing I would be most grateful!
Thanks!
Andrew

it's one of those "hey, let's just have your rich company pay for it" pricing models.
I wonder if there's a chance to access single classes for a cheaper price?
Unfortunately there isn't. You can get an expo pass for $250, but that doesn't get you into the talks.
It is harsh, but considering that you can squeeze in 30+ hours of training, it's a better deal than most classes out there.
Everyone participating in this bootcamp works sheerly out of passion and has no monetary interest in this. But GDC is the only place where it is reasonable to expect to get a few hundred people together to make all that effort worthwhile.
Now yes I assume that GDC expects the companies to pay for folks, because if you are unemployed or just starting out it could be pretty steep.
As a free option you can choose to be a volunteer at the conference, and while it is hard work you also get a free pass and an option to see a lot of the talks you want to see.
The recording of the bootcamp should be available from GDC vault which is a lot cheaper then attending the actual conference and I'll do my best to convince the conference to release some of those talks for free.
If you are coming to GDC grab your friends and hang out with us at the Art Direction Bootcamp. Lots of great talks and great people. Should be fun!
I'll probably be too busy working the booth to stop by, but its awesome to see the effort put into this.
ComicCon 4 day badges are 220 usd.
Holy crap, my career is expensive.
Well, on and off job at this point. This is what I get for graduating uni.
Thanks Artstream! Yeah we're happy to make a push to represent art some more.
So I've got some cool news. You can submit questions for the members of the bootcamp and the answers to the most interesting ones are going to end up on Gamasutra. Do it!

I'll do my best to obtain the slides and post the here after all's said and done.
We should have a mini Polycount meetup over lunch!
We also have a facebook group now! If you're on facebook it would be a great way to get updated about the bootcamp and slides and whatnot

It was very humbling seeing so many people with a passion for art and games show up. We had a full room almost the entire day with lines stretching around the corner at some point. If you were one of them thank you so much for coming. The bootcamp wouldn't exist without you.
We definitely had our fair share of hiccups and we'll do our best to do better next year. But if you find these videos as educational and inspiring as we did working on them, then I'll reckon we've done something wright.
