But inside Maya or Max? I'm finding myself doing the same steps over and over again when level designing inside Maya and i wish i could do better with a plugin or some collection of scripts to make my life easier. Could not find anything though.

Actually, right now i was using that tool. I designed levels in ProBuilder and used a Unity script to export the scene as COLLADA. The problem is: i lose all my material and texture data. I wanted to do everything in Maya.
I ask because every developer I've worked with who has tried to use Maya or Max as their level editor has eventually run into too many barriers for it to be worthwhile to continue. It seems like it would be a natural fit, but in the end it really isn't.
