The idea I've decided to roll with is that of a military spaceship, whose cockpit has been converted into a throne. I'm hoping to successfully blend the vehicle with the architecture of its surroundings, and at the same time to use the architecture of the setting to influence the vehicle's design itself.
One idea is that the throne belongs to the tyrannous ruler of a stranded space-colony, but it is actually a crashed spaceship that has been converted, and that is found in the colony's main hangar.
An alternative idea, and possibly my favorite one, is that the spaceship hangs suspended from the ceiling of a colossal hangar, pointing straight down so as to blend in with the direction of the architecture.
I'm thinking either an overly-military theme or a theme that really uses the idea of royalty and wealth, which would draw from perhaps the Eldar race or the High Elves.
Loads of ideas flowing!

Some silhouette concepts. Trying to use large curves to give a sense of the ship "flowing" downwards with the surrounding architecture.
Had a go at concept painting. Just playing around with light and angles.
Did some very rough blocking out to get a better grasp of the direction I'd like to take. Thinking about scaling down the ship, which would make sense. A smaller ship would be much more personal to whoever's in the throne. I've also discovered that I like the idea of concentric shapes "hugging" the ship; it would integrate the ship much more into the architecture of the room, after all, I'm making a room, not a ship.
