Can you share with us previous shirts used for the convention so we know what to expect, in general?
We havent done GDC shirts before, but here is the front design of the shirt we did for The International event this year. I'm not saying it has to be like this by any means of course.
I here this design and I want to know if it breaks the color rules? (Also, Does multiple shades of a color count toward your color count)? Also does black and white could for your 3 colors?

I think they're using screen printing to make the shirts. I used to work in a screen printing shop.
The way screen printing works, you can only print lighter shades of each color.
Look up close at a photo in a black and white newspaper... they only use black ink, but they get grays by blocking the ink with dot patterns, called halftone, or dithering.
So, your design looks like 4 colors. Three solid-color greens, plus thin black outlines. If the greens were dithered versions of one green color, that would work.
Here's some dithering with two colors, red and green. From a distance it looks smoother.
Actually for your design you would have a solid green plate then a black plate with different levels of transparency (halftones) printed on top. Think of a each plate a separate grayscale image.
OK, the contest is at an end and we'll be talking with the Marmoset folks tomorrow about picking a winner.
Some of these might get printed... If we can get decent prices.. we'll see. Any that gets printed will be counted as a full winner and get all promised prizes.
my personal thoughts: finally some decent polycount shirts! woot

You do this by blocking the holes in the screen. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screen_printing)
