About Gloss Maps!!!

Hi Guys, I´m trying to improve my maps knowledge and I have seen couple times Gloss Maps, but I really don´t know how to use it correctly or even how to create a nice one.I have painted 2 or 3 times on MudBox, there is a way that I could do it on Photoshop or using another map ???

    The first thing to understand is that the name gloss is used both in the old ad-hoc shading method and current PBR shading method, but do different things.

    In the old method a gloss map is a grayscale map that defines the size of the specular highlight. Its often called the specular power, or specular cosine. Read this

    In the current method, one workflow that can be used is a spec/gloss workflow, where gloss determines the sharpness of the specular reflections(I.E. reflections). If you would like to learn more about PBR check this thread
