Hello Polycount world!
Over the past 4 or 5 months I have been working for a little studio in the UK called BlueBlaze Studio on a little Indie game called; Celestial Cleave. It's a turn based strategy game developed in Unreal Engine 4.
I've had the honor to take up the helm on the Character development for the pieces that will be used in the game. As a new direction the studio is moving in, we have effectively blown open the development doors and openly invited anyone interested to come and watch us make the game in all aspects in real time. Whether you are interested in blueprint UE4 design, or more applicable here, 3D character asset design and pipeline.
Specifically in this thread I'll be sharing my personal pipeline for creating 3D characters. I'll go over a little of the lore and gameplay ideas very soon to give the characters some substance.
Oh, and speaking of substance, I will be using
Substance Painter and Designer almost exclusively for texturing.
Any kind of comments and questions are more than welcome. This is our way of giving a little something back to the awesome Polycount community.
Here is a little preview of the first completely finished character for Celestial Cleave - The Saint
We have also published our first live stream on the 3D Character Modeling pipeline on YouTube

Nope, this is in game model. It's around 15k triangles with a few 2k texture maps.
The game is played only on a board similar to chess so there will only ever be a limited number of pieces at any given time. This give us some room to be able to zoom into the pieces to see some nice textures etc.
This is the block out stage. I'm thinking something a little gundam-ish with feminine cyborg/UI over tones.
Here is the base model I put together to help with shapes and feel.
More to come... Next up, hard surface pieces.
You're right Holly. Her hips disappeared a little. Thanks for the feedback. It's always welcome.
I actually noticed that something weird happened to her hips when I put in the rib-line detail. It was weird.
I'm working on some fixes now and will post updates soon.
I think the Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series http://goo.gl/rS1Gx8 designed in the same way...
The Archangel designed in the same way...
Thanks David
Tons more to come. Can't wait to show final model of the Archangel.
Feedback is always welcome.
Here's one of the final hi-res renders.
We appreciate all support.
