Hey folks! I am so so happy to reveal what I have been re-working for a little while. Growing up as a girl in the 80's was interesting to say the least. Based on the Ranch Scene from The Last of Us I decided to create a room with a punk rock girl growing up in a small town kind of vibe. The Clash and the Ramones but with some modern day twists. Her heart is stuck in the 80's but her soul always left her with more to desire. I present to you Combat Rock!
As always I value your critiques and comments so so much so I look forward to seeing what you all have to say! Have a lovely week friends!
Hey guys! So for those who have been following my posts for awhile know this is the bane of my existence hah so hopefully this time around this better conveys both the critiques as well as my personal style a bit better. Hope you guys enjoy it! Cheers!
This scene looks great! But it could be presented better.
Try to edit the camera path so it doesn't go through geometry, very disconcerting to the viewer.
Reduce the lens flares and glows significantly, they distract us from your artwork.
Increase the framerate of your video by rendering more frames. This looks like 10-15fps, very jerky.
Get rid of the title screens, show your scene immediately, we're impatient to see it, don't make us wait. You can add titles overtop.
1:30 is too long for the fly-through. I found myself skipping ahead. Try to keep it down to 30 sec or less.
"Detail Lighting" it isn't, it's just Lighting. You could call it Lighting Pass.
But you don't need to repeat the full camera path again for each pass, it takes way too long. Just show a still frame for 2-3 seconds of each pass, and wipe between them. If you want to get fancy, do a quick camera pan between passes.
Also it would help to do a backface-culled shaded wireframe (flat-colored models with wireframe overlay). That is much easier to read than plain wireframe.
Hey @Eric Chadwick Thanks so much for the feedback! I think the ivy is so heavy geo wise that it stutters unfortunately no matter what. I need to go back and optimize all of that geo along with some others and then re-film it, I think this is the case with alot of my work actually and I never realized it until I started doing video breakdowns. I'll go back and try to render more frames, and reduce it to around 30 seconds for the flythrough.
The detail lighting I just labeled as such because that's what unreal called it, I'll be sure to label it lighting pass, and switch wireframe views to still frames with the wireframe overlayed in say photoshop or such.
Thank you once again for the great feedback it's greatly appreciated! Cheers!
Oh how interesting! Im not sure I am looking for 360 screenshot videos, but I'll go ahead and do research on frame by frame capture in unreal! Thanks for the idea!
Hi Guys! I am so so happy to present my latest work to you guys based around Dontnod’s gorgeous and inspiring game Life is Strange. My goal was to both study how they did layout design for their rooms as well as how they handled the fidelity of their spec/roughness, one of my personal weaknesses. So without further ado I am happy to present my study entitled Retrogasm. My goal was to take the personality of Chloe, and tweak it to tell a different story. While keeping the rebellious flair, I also wanted to embrace some of the artistic side in the retro cheesy movie posters era. This presented some design challenges in keeping values in tune with each other but hopefully for the most part I accomplished my goal. Thank you guys so much and I truly hope you enjoy this!
Please feel free to provide me with critiques and comments and have a wonderful rest of your week! Cheers guys!
Hey everyone! I went ahead and did some updates to my Liquid Sunshine piece because I wanted to see the progression I've made since last summer. I've also included the before and after image so hopefully you can see the progression I've made. So without further ado I am happy to present my latest piece Liquid Sunshine.
