1 - Mudbox is an effective way to create complex details, like the embossed effect in metal and wood.
All images of the weapon use the workshop_workbench ingame renders except this image. I render this image in Mudbox to show the work.
2 - Simulate a realistic gap between the wooden grip of the pistol and the metal was very difficult, because the entire surface is smooth.
To make this effect, I created a hole like an empty river, one side of the river is wood, the bottom and the other side of the river is metal.
3 - The screws are painted(render) in 3DS Max, applying the material "steel" and the use of IBL (image based lights) to obtain a realistic 3D effect.
4 - Mudbox is a very complete program,but it is often necessary add sculpting tools. The diamond pattern is created in Photoshop to be used as a tool("stencil") in Mudbox.
5 - I used random tiny hemispherical domes to create a grainy effect on the background of dices and floral. This technique is used in real engraved weapons, called "beading punch".
6 - Finish Style: Patina.
Pong exponent: 127. Decreased the size of highlight over the weapon.
Phong boost: 15. Increased the over brightening of highlight.
