Hello polycount, this is my first post here !
I've been working on this guy for the past few weeks on my spare time. Here is my progress on the HP. I don't plan to go further on the modeling part and do the rest of the details on the normal map with nDo.
C&C welcome, of course.

Exactly my plan. This ship is full of small flat details, especialy on the wings. Modeling them would be a nightmare so I will do them in nDo instead.
Saying that, I've done the baking of the main part. Cockpit will follow later. I also strated the nDo pass.
Feedbck greatly appreciated !
considering it appeared in a snow world, a winter HDRI would be more appropriate, or maybe some hangar studio setup
Would look interesting to see a panel ripped open with some wires/pipes visible with burn marks. Could add a bit of visual interest as Shrike mentioned.
I work with various HDRi all the time to be sure that the model works in every lighting. In the end there will be a winter HDRi but it's quite hard to find a good one. (maybe someone know where to find some ?)
Thanks in advance and again props on a sweet looking piece.
For your second question: I spent way too much time on this. Especialy on the modeling part, trying to match the original ship. And it's not even worth it because the parts wich have the highest level of detail are the less visible ones.
Thanks!
Ross
Lawless Flogic : just here http://www.modelermagic.com/?p=2580 ! Looks like there is a ton of ref for other spaceships. I should take a look.
ross185 : Here you go. It's 30k with the cockpit. 20k without it.
I'm not really happy with my packing but whatever, it's too late now. The model looks fine in 2k if I don't look too close (a.k.a ingame view) but I will keep it in 4k for rendering.
try out the "color lookup (CS6 and up) > crisp winter look" in photoshop, feels a lot more natural
color grading is always allowed ; )
Looks good though, the only critique I have is that the edges seem really sharp/tight but I guess that is classic StarWars style.
Great job overall, fantastic texturing work and the nostalgia factor makes it even better
Spiffy : I used ddo to texture it and only did some adding by hand so it's not a problem for me. What do you mean by "mine field of normal map artifacts" ? I didn't had any. I use uv layout packing everyday at work and never get any troubles.
Sage : I wish I had time for it but I really need a break from this .
JustGarry : I know what you mean. Re-watching The Empire Strikes Back again got me. Thanks again for all your feedbacks !
So just a little progress to show the new post-processing pass according to Shrike suggestion.
I'm upping this post from the oblivion. I remade the texture in Substance Painter 2 and also remade some more polished presentation shots.
Cheers !
