Hey guys!
Throughout December I have been actively sculpting a female face every day to improve as I aspire to be a character artist when I finish my degree.
I would love some critique on these last 2 female busts I created. (second image is my most recent one).
One thing I know I need to improve on is the eyelids and getting a nicer shape.
I was aiming to create a face that you would often find in video games.
Thanks in advance

Nice planes of the face reference:
Keep up the good work, looking forward to seeing more!
I came across a download of John Asaro - Planes of the head that someone had taken high res pictures from all different angles which has definitely helped me .. if anyone is interested, I have included the link

hmmm i think you maybe losing the roundness and barrell of the mouth
as well as the roundness and some minor planes on the lips.
some refs
gj keep it up!
ty chantel-sky for the link
my lips are quite small comparing to the 2nd image though ...
Thanks for the critique, I'll take it on board
second one you retain the barrell of the mouth but i think the lips are losing its forms,
heres a scan i did for valerie winslow's anatomy book regarding lips
peace!
And unpainted version
Keep it up though, you're making progress.
Yeah, it is in orthographic view.. I read somewhere or heard it in a video tutorial to not sculpt in perspective view so I forgot about using it altogether. Is it best to present the busts in perspective view?
I think if I added a faint nasolabial fold, it'd make the face not look as flat though.
Thanks for your critique
The last sculpt looks fine from the front, but from the side, it looks really off, especially at her cheek and mouth area. The lips shape is definitely much better, but a bit too up in the front, i think.
I made you a paintover, hope this helps.
I'm learning anatomy as well, so some of my point may looks worse for some people.
ps: hey, i notice from the file name that this is Asami. Is it Asami from Korra? Because i'm doing a bust of Asami as well, haha.
The only thing is the face looks quite flat in the paintover compared to the sculpture Carlobarley posted.
Yeah it was just an Asami inspired bust, Gonna miss that show so much
Looking forward to seeing your Asami bust though!
I've been working on Satsuki Kiryuin from Kill La Kill.. I think the face looks a lot better on the side view (posted in orthographic view)
Your noses from the side also have a tendency to be rather large when put in proportion with the rest of the face.
Keep it up!
Yeah I did notice the noses are always too big, I always end up having to scale them in lol
I took into consideration the feedback I've received and sculpted this face today, It'll be of Motoko Kusagnagi from Ghost in the shell.
